VAMPIRES IN CINEMA
In this special project, the editorial teams of KINOTV and ORNAMENT, an illustrated print magazine about cinema, dare come face to face with cinema’s most striking vampires, without garlic or a wooden stake. We’ll explore why everyone was so obsessed with «Twilight», when vampires started being funny, and what the appeal of «Sinners» really is.
We’ll pick the most stylish bloodsuckers, admire the fatal and deadly vampire women, and, hopefully, you will add some great fang-filled films to your watchlist.
Vampires appeared in cinema at the very dawn of the medium and have firmly established themselves there. Over the past century, vampires have taken on many different guises, evolving from terrifying bloodsuckers into attractive «vegetarians», accumulating metaphors of varying degrees of pleasantness along the way, and they are still with us.

Hoa hoa hoa hoa hoa hoa…
nearly two decades after its release, «Twilight» is returning to the big screen, but this time as a beloved meme and a wave of nostalgia.
TWILIGHT.
THE SAGA.
RETURNS.
How did a monster become the dream of millions? What had Hollywood executives nervously chain-smoking on the sidelines? And why are we rewatching the saga all these years later? We take a closer look at the phenomenon of the franchise.
In the mid-2000s, this strange love story turned vampire cinema on its head, offered a fresh take on what makes men and women attractive, and forced mainstream culture to take teenage girls' desires seriously.

WHY
WE
FELL IN LOVE WITH BESSON’S «DRACULA»
And what lies behind the film’s strange charm, which even its most harshest viewers admit.
Together with director Max Shishkin and creative producer Elsa Serova, we rank the most stylish bloodsuckers.
We explore why Luc Besson’s idea of making yet another film about Count Dracula seemed doomed to fail, but didn’t, at least in Russia.

«SINNERS»:
Still, "Sinners" had plenty of critics who dismissed it as "a simple horror film" or even a copy of other movies. We explain what makes Ryan Coogler’s blues concert so special and why it deserves your attention.
Ryan Coogler’s «Sinners» is one of the most divisive films of 2025. It was a box-office hit and set a record at the 2026 Oscars, receiving 16 nominations.

VAMPIRES
Since then, funny vampires have appeared on screen just as often as frightening, tragic, or romantic ones. We’ve picked five films that will help you discover the comedic talent of the main characters in our special project.
In the second half of the 1940s, bloodsuckers who had once inspired fear found themselves at the center of comedy.

VAMPIRES AS METAPHOR...
Especially when the film is made by directors with such distinctive authorial styles as Jim Jarmusch, George Romero, or Park Chan-wook.
In cinema, vampires are rarely just supernatural bloodsuckers. More often than not, their image serves as a metaphor for a particular problem.
